I thought this was a good introduction to what Dan Levy can do. I liked, but not loved, what he did with his character in "Schitt's Creek"; so to see a different side of his acting was a welcomed sight.
I could appreciate this story he wrote, though his directing capabilities was quite a standard affair.
Luke Evans was a great choice for this role as he was just magnetic and filled with charisma. The supporting characters in Ruth Negga and Himesh Patel were also great choice. Though I was quite unsure about the brief cameos from Emma Corrin and Kaitlyn Dever. I thought they would have popped up at least one more time.
But as a lead, I thought Levy had a bit more he could have done to bring the emotional gut punch because honestly there were none here. The movie was definitely a good watch, but there just wasn't an emotional height that would have moved the audience even more. So the journey was more of a quiet one on top of a plateau.
