What was very impressive with the production of the movie was the hair and make-up's ability to show the "before" and "now" as the movie jumped back and forth between a decade.
The three leads all played themselves from their teenage years to adulthood, even as young parents. And all very believable, other than perhaps Zendaya whose physical frame and youth made her look young no matter what.
Still, her acting ability was what shone here, together with the talents of Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist. The trio made this movie worked, and Luca Guadagnino knew exactly how to bring out their best work.
Trent Reznor's score sounded very good - in most of the scenes when it played. There were just a couple of times when Guadagnino put the score in and I wasn't sure what he wanted me to feel because it was a bit awkward and didn't quite sit well when that particular scene was playing.
And don't expect this to be a tennis movie. If you know Guadagnino, you'll know his movies is always about the human relationship. Once again, it's so well done that as an audience member, I was just engrossed in each of their character.
But there wasn't much else going on in the movie. Sure, there were great tennis being displayed - I particularly liked it when a character smash a tennis ball straight into the camera and made me flinched; but in terms of being an interesting and engaging movie, this wasn't it.
Guadagnino's endings, in the movies that I adore I usually liked them; but this time I didn't care for it. That look on Zendaya's character, I thought it was very contradicting to whatever she was doing to get there. And this time I left the movie going, what!?
