No matter how well a script is written, only the directors can set the tone and style of a movie. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah seemed to have gotten Michael Bay's formula for this franchise even more this second time around.

And what's clever about this sequel was that the writers gave Martin Lawrence's character a twist; whereby now he's the more reckless and carefree one while Will Smith's got stuck in the head. This dynamic instantly provided an interesting shift that was much needed in the aging franchise.

Of course, the plots didn't always gel together all the time; but the result was still a very fun ride that, I would say, kind of rejuvenated the franchise a bit more.
