I don't know what the whole crybabying was about, but this felt like the sequel of the first movie. I had no problems with what was presented in front of me in terms of characterization. The only problem was, it wasn't a good story.
The musical numbers felt forced in and had zero impact on moving the story forward, unlike a normal musical would.
I kept waiting for something to happen and it didn't. Right up until "Joker" appeared in court, that happened and I checked out immediately because I did not understand why the character Arthur Fleck would suddenly become that competent. We were establishing that his persona of Joker was gone (which was what the whole movie was about - Harley Quinn was trying to coax out of him the entire time they were together).
And that court scene was the whole third act, which was just silly. What a disaster of a sequel to follow an incredibly original first movie.
