This look at an aged Sherlock Holmes wasn't very interesting, and I don't think anyone was asking for. Was there an alternative way of telling this story to make it interesting? It's already directed by Bill Condon and if he can't do it...
Ian McKellan can do no wrong and he didn't. He played it exactly like an aged Sherlock, but just losing his faculties a little. Laura Linney was an odd choice here because they should have gotten a Brit; instead of a forced British accent that did not sound convincing.
There wasn't anything particular that was wrong with the film, just wasn't a very interesting story to follow.
