Anora wins big as Sean Baker sweeps all his categories. And I couldn't be happier. Baker becomes the first person to win four statues in one night, and for all the big categories too.
My predictions this year for what or who will win were way off; only because, this year, the Academy decided to side with my picks!
"My picks" are 11 of 13, while "will win" are only 3 of 13. Also, only one category, Original Song, went to something out of my prediction or pick.
This year's award show is weird. Started a bit off already with Conan O'Brien's jokes that are not "bad" but just felt like not for the Oscars stage, because his jokes sometimes have nothing to do with the Oscars and sometimes had nothing to do with movies. Every time he came on, he felt like a distraction from the awards ceremony, instead of the host.
And then came the 007's tribute. The ceremony has traditionally been too long, and just a couple of years ago they tried to take a few categories out of the live telecast - important categories like Cinematography. And here they are, this year, prioritizing songs from movies and taking up way too much time; including an intro dance number with Margaret Qualley. Why? She has no relation to the Bond movies. (Also, having Lisa from Black Pink sing on one of the songs was not a good choice.)
And then later on doing what the Oscars do best, cutting off speeches when that should be most important.
The Oscars ceremony continues to baffle me, but I still love it.
