This movie needed Jon Bernthal. Even though he was in the first movie, but unlike the sequel he wasn't in the majority.
Ben Affleck could only do so much; but with Bernthal, there was an electricity in their chemistry that made it so fun to watch. And it gave a different perspective to Affleck's spectrum.
There was a lot more humour (because of Bernthal's character and performance), and their dynamic made the pacing go that much more smoother than the first.
