Inglourious Basterds (7/10)
I always find it fun and interesting to watch a movie by a director whose style is as distinctive as Baz Luhrmann, M. Night Shyamalan, or in this case, Quentin Tarantino.Right from the opening credits, no one can be as strangely inconsistent with the fonts and still make them fit like Tarantino can. Although I have to say, it was quite bizarre. But then it jumped straight into classic Tarantino style - a lengthy discussion between the first couple of characters before the killings began.Throughout the chapters that made up the movie, there were plenty more lengthy discussions and sometimes Tarantino slipped into self-indulgent mode again while at other times a lot of the drama were just over the top. Times like these, it got a bit tedious after the first couple of times and I just wished he would get to the point. However, in the opening sequence we were introduced to Christoph Waltz who stole the whole movie with his brilliant performance. His charisma, even with its evil vibe and intent, draws all attention to him. His brilliance hit me when he was seated at the dinner table and taking his notebook and pen out. His every action was just so smooth yet deliberate that he not only made his target uncomfortable but made me pay 100% attention to him too.The rest of the cast were brilliant as well. I loved to see Brad Pitt in a role that allows him to slip into a character that could engulf his Hollywood persona and suck it out of the movie. His choices in recent years has served him very well. It's good to see Tarantino still has what it takes to make a great original movie that could stand out and be a top contender of the year.
