[/caption]Giving this movie a 6 could be a little bit generous on my part. From the opening, it already gave me an inkling that the writing may not be as good as expected. Its trailer definitely made it look good.Over time, the writing definitely proved itself as secondary to everything else - which makes me worry for The Sorcerer's Apprentice as they shared two similar writers. The lines uttered by the actors were filled with cheese and can never properly explain what was going on in the scenes. And there were a lot of cringe-worthy moments too as the lines fell flat on what they were intended for. Most of the efforts were spent on creating incredible looking CGI. And none of the efforts were spent on choreographing any kick-ass fight scenes, which was gravely disappointing. The last fight that had Dastan dueling it out with the Hassansin was just ridiculous. All I could see was Dastan raising his weapon above his head to strike down at his opponent, three times. No choreography at all.I have never played the game but from the little I've seen of it, the movie did one thing well - and perhaps that's the single best part about the whole movie. Jake Gyllenhaal, looking incredible in his new body, performed the parkour through the rooftops and narrow streets of the carefully crafted city was simply beautiful. But I'm still not convinced that he is the best actor for the part. Bad accent and all.Only Gemma Arterton, and to some extent Alfred Molina, suited the part and played very well into the character. Ben Kingsley never took off.As for the ending, it would have been better had he just left the princess since she didn't remember anything. But no, we're not getting an emo Dastan.I'm sure this movie will rake in the cash so a sequel definitely is in the horizon. Let's hope there's a better execution next time to reinforce a decent storyline.
