[/caption]Amidst all the messy cliches, there's a story in here that's moving. But I don't know if it's the writing or the directing, and both involved Nick Cassevetes. However, the weakest links were also the adults cast. Cameron Diaz didn't fit the role. She didn't look like a lawyer and certainly didn't look like a mother. Her emotions felt forced and her parenting skills looked fake. Alec Baldwin too didn't look like a serious lawyer was required of him. Jason Patric though slightly better had no chemistry with Diaz. The kids saved it on the performance front. They played their roles just to the right amount and pulled at the audience's heartstrings. But mixed in the story were too much montages that didn't work and wasted time.Perhaps with a more serious cast this may have worked better.
