[/caption]It's that time again when somebody decided to make another Independence Day / War Of The Worlds / Cloverfield / The Invasion. And that somebody has a huge budget too.
But what could have worked 10 years ago certainly didn't work now. There wasn't really anything new to the story. The only thing updated perhaps was just the CGI, I'll give the movie that. The visual effects and the "aliens" looked "new". It's not anymore scary than usual, but it did look good. Having said that, however, there was nothing that could really impress. Everything has been done before and this was just another "copycat" if you will.
The actors threw a lot of lines, but they weren't saying a whole lot. That's the problem with the entire movie. The script was horrible and didn't help the story much. Worse was when nothing was explained so none of the actors had to sound intelligent. There weren't much thought put in to the story and the whole movie relied heavily on the visual effects, something I don't appreciate.
The only interesting part was right at the end when they threw in that twist, directing to what the sequel would be. That twist, though interesting, could go either way. It could be really good if they explained all the questions surrounding this movie while delving into the psyche of the aliens, or it could still be just as silly as this first one.
But I believe Eric Balfour and Donald Faison did the best they could with what material they had. Though there was that one scene when Faison was snatched away from Balfour and all of a sudden, it was Frodo and Samwise all over again.
