Let Me In (7/10)
The innocence from the original Let The Right One In was a little lost in this remake.I was really looking forward to this one. And I was even pleasantly surprised to see that someone bothered to bring this in to a cinema near me.I thought this remake by Matt Reeves was very faithful to the original. And as a remake of such a recent movie, I thought it was very well done. But of course as far as remakes go, some things had to be done differently. And I can't say any of them were improvements. The original had a little bit more characters for its subplot and had more humour. And as mentioned, the innocence and a lot of subtlety were not brought forward to this one where everything was much more in-your-face.I also didn't like the usage of CGI effects here which I felt was another reason why some of the innocence were gone. And the final scene at the swimming pool somehow didn't look as impressively scary as the original even with the bigger CGI budget. So that was a little disappointing. As you can see, I'm harsh only because I'm comparing this to the masterpiece which the original was. But Let Me In is still a very good movie with a very good production. The main cast of Chloe Moretz, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Richard Jenkins and Elias Koteas shone brilliantly under the direction of Reeves. Moretz and Smit-McPhee's characters developed very well. They still managed to bring across their innocence to the audience (even though I was in a cinema filled with annoying immature idiots) and make you feel for them.Only that spark of a quiet masterpiece was missing.
