Colin Firth never embodied a character this good before. A well deserved nomination and I'll definitely be rooting for him in seven days, but mostly because I haven't seen most of the other nominated actors yet.
Geoffrey Rush also another fantastic performance opposite Firth. The two shared so much chemistry that the two made the entire movie. If Rush isn't nominated, then he damned very well should for supporting actor.
It's a little unusual to see Helena Bonham Carter without crazy hair and crazy eyes as that's always what I see her in. It was quite a change for me and it took me a little while more to get used to her demure. But once I got over that, her grace shone through brilliantly. She had two emphasis, one was when her character was with her husband, and the other when she was with other people. Both were played to perfection and she too has to be nominated or I may throw a tantrum.
This was a beautiful story told through the lens of Tom Hooper, and with the help of his team, the images that we got in some scenes were simply breathtaking. When they were indoors, there was the old fashioned and a sense of mustiness. But when they were outdoors, there was the openness of space that the two extremes were very palpable. So much so that even when Rush's character opened a window you could almost feel the fresh air entered.
But the rich chemistry between Firth and Rush was just so intoxicating that when they were apart, the scenes didn't feel too interesting. So sometimes it could feel a little draggy in parts and I was just waiting for them to come together again - as that's where all the fun was. The two actors made the movie what it is.
