Thor 3D (8/10)

This was done really well because it was properly made.

The detail when in Asgard was amazing. As Thor rode with the warriors on the rainbow bridge, that scene itself was just amazing and showed the great care to detail in this movie.

Watching the trailer, with Anthony Hopkins in that shining armour, it bordered on cheesy. But now watching the whole movie, it wasn't even close. Director Kenneth Branah did fantastic with his big budget. The transition from Asgard to Earth was seamless. And best of all, I enjoyed both worlds of Asgard and Earth.

Acting wise, Chris Hemsworth looked like he was born to play Thor (where did they find this guy?). Natalie Portman never looked this cute in movies before (though I still haven't managed to catch No Strings Attached). But that moment when Thor kissed her hand, priceless. OK, I'm getting sidetracked. However, their chemistry I thought was lacking just a little bit. Though this could easily be blamed on the story since there weren't many chances for their romance to develop.

Kat Dennings and Stellan Skarsgard did as required. Clark Gregg again did well as Agent Coulson and had a hilarious line referring to Tony Stark. Idris Elba looked very good as Heimdall. Rene Russon, however, looked almost unrecognisable and really didn't have that much to do. The rest of the Thor's friends portrayed very interesting and fun characters. But it was Tom Hiddleston playing Loki that almost stole the show. He provided most of the drama and the more serious acting and I really loved his performance. I'm glad he's back in The Avengers next year. All in all, a very great choice of actors, especially the new faces of Hemsworth and Hiddleston.

One thing that bugged me was how Asgard looked empty most of the time. But you can tell it's not when they were having the crowning ceremony at the beginning and the celebratory banquet at the end. And also how the story went too quickly skipping development steps as per the aforementioned romance, or how Thor had to blurt out his offer of alliance to Agent Coulson in reference to the upcoming The Avengers with just one line. They could have done much more but understandably, time was an issue as it always is with Hollywood summer flicks.

Having said that, once again, Branagh obviously did well in keeping something as big as Thor together.
