Mr. Popper's Penguins (4/10)

Why is Jim Carrey making this kind of movie. It really doesn't add much to his repertoire. Actually, he is taking two steps back with this one in my opinion.

Sure it's a nice movie that a family with young kids could watch together, but for me, it was barely entertaining and mostly boring.

There's no logic to the movie. I guess that's my biggest beef with it. When you can turn your apartment into the North pole, my brain shuts off. And I don't like to shut off my brain that way.

Acting wise, only Carrey did a lot of it. Carla Gugino helped a little and Ophelia Lovibond brought a little extra humour. The kids I guess did the best they could with the material. But Carrey's performance ultimately overpowered everyone else.

Carrey didn't explore new territories. He kept to something safe and familiar, but I really do think he's better than this. It's just a shame. But now he's got this family genre under his belt, let's move on to something else, please!
