I remembered Robin Williams had a better impact on the first movie. But here I didn't think he was as effective adding entertainment value. However, of course, Elijah Wood was still the main character; and this time sharing the spotlight with Ava Acres voicing for the new and cute baby penguin, Erik.
Many a time that cuteness stole the show but everything went downhill during that segment where Erik had to sing. I couldn't wait for it to be over but it just kept going on and on as it was one full song.
Pink stepped in for the late Brittany Murphy and even though her role for the mother penguin was a small one, I thought she did very well. And when she sang, that was the highlight of the movie every time.
This time the producers created a duo of shrimps to follow in the footsteps of Scrat from Ice Age to provide some offbeat humour as a subplot from the main storyline. They even got Brad Pitt and Matt Damon to come in which I thought as a whole was unnecessary to spend on these A-listers. But they knew that the fun factor would increase and it did. Solely also because right in the opening they already named which actor was voicing what character.
So especially for Brad Pitt who played a really offbeat character which we seldom see from Pitt, it was definitely fun. But having said that, the whole subplot didn't really add too much to the whole movie and it just dragged the story longer.
As a musical I thought it wasn't as effective too and certainly not as good as the first movie. The songs were not interesting and I can't even remember a single tune right now.
