50/50 (8/10)

"Best movie of the year"?

It was good, but not that good.

After 500 Days Of Summer, I half expected this to be similar. But it's totally different. And, after all, it's Joseph Gordon-Levitt, a versatile actor that takes his work very seriously and very smartly. Why would he be doing something similar? No wonder I would want him to play me if there ever is a movie about my life.

What really drew me into 500 Days Of Summer was the honest depiction of reality in the world of fiction.

For 50/50, most of it was honest and real too, but I thought the part that wasn't as original was Bryce Dallas Howard's role. Right from the start you could tell she was going to break his heart. And it was written in a way that was too easy.

But of course the main actress here was the ever adorable Anna Kendrick and she didn't disappoint in both the adorable department and her performance.

Seth Rogen was a tad too eager as the best friend but still delivered the funny. Angelica Huston played her over-protective role to perfection. You could feel her anxiousness and frustration through the silver screen.

The story was engaging even though there weren't any emotional roller-coaster. Everything was more subtle and gradual.

And finally, the way it ended was also another very satisfying one.
