G. I. Joe: Retaliation (4/10)

Swapping one Dwayne Johnson for the whole cast of G. I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra, well, I didn't like it from the start when the news first came out. Granted I wouldn't have liked to see a couple of those characters but I just couldn't get onboard with the idea of killing off all those characters they have built up.

This time, with John M. Chu at the helm, the story telling suffered even further. The Japanese sub-plot with Storm Shadow was badly delivered and left a bad after taste. The introduction of Jinx was cheesy and weak. And all the action sequences didn't do the first instalment any justice.

Johnson to lead the cast, yes he delivered. Adding Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye was a satisfactory choice. Even Bruce Willis as the original Joe was a good idea as he fitted the part.

But Elodie Yung was a bad choice. D. J. Cotrona as Flint was worse. These versions of these two great characters were horribly written in. Flint should have been portrayed more of a leader than the mercenary / muscle type. And Jinx didn't even go blindfold nor had any cool fight scenes.

Snake Eyes still looked a bit weird in that armour. And RZA as his master was uncomfortable to watch. Only Jonathan Pryce was a good choice and good to watch.

I was disappointed, sorely; a lot was lacking and it felt like a B rated movie instead of what it's supposed to be.
