The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (7/10)

What can I say. I have never been, and probably never will, be a fan of the dwarves in any fantasy story.

So to have the main heroes of The Hobbit as the dwarves, I couldn't get past my preferential favouritism, or here lack of. Plus their names, Gloin and Groin and Oin or something. How do I even relate or differentiate.

Not only that, the whole unexpected journey was quite a slow one. They had a slow start; I couldn't really care for the merry singing and clearing of the dishes, and their journey was not as eventful as what we saw in The Fellowship Of The Ring.

No doubt the picture was beautiful. And I really don't see anyone else directing this movie other than Peter Jackson. And Smeagol this time was even scarier than I remembered.

The best part, and probably what saved this slow-crawl of a movie, was the final 20 minutes or so where the action just wouldn't let up. It was a chase after a chase after a chase, and the adrenalin just wouldn't stop. A couple of times I thought that was the end of the movie but another chase and another action sequence came along.

But I found myself comparing this instalment a lot to The Fellowship Of The Ring. And Fellowship was just much more fun from beginning to end.
