This was another adaptation of Stephanie Meyer's novel, by writer-director Andrew Niccol; who has fared much better with In Time and Lord Of War - both movies I have high regards for.
Here, his effort just didn't shine through as each scene seemed too carefully prepared and took too long to complete. I think the way Saoirse Ronan spoke to herself when she was alone was kind of off-putting as time went by. And even the lighter moments weren't able to elevate the mood from this almost monotonous setting.
Diane Kruger didn't really had a very interesting role here. The only one that truly shone, just a little, was William Hurt. This also marks the second movie in a row where Ronan wasn't able to carry the movie as the main character.
Somehow, even the more dramatic scene failed to have a proper effect on the audience. And with the absence of a climatic finish, the whole movie felt more like a dud.
And of course, just like Twilight, Meyer has yet again created a love triangle for her characters. Oh but wait, this time there were actually four people if we count Ronan's character twice.
