Zero Dark Thirty (7/10)

A great look at what happened, events leading and up to the assassination of Bin Laden; even though it may not be as accurate as we would like it to be. (It is Hollywood after all.)

A film filled with mostly B listers, but under Kathryn Bigelow, they all gave great performances. Jessica Chastain's first big major role to carry a movie and I was captivated by her performance.

This was a slow boil, sometimes a bit too slow for me. I had trouble keeping up and had to swallow whatever was thrown at me. Some plots I wondered how it could happen but there were no explanations given, like how the intelligence team could figure out who were men and who were women; or how they could differentiate between the women and the men. All these were as baffling as scientific terms.

I also thought that while Bigelow wanted to portray the secret forces as emotional human beings, I felt some of those scenes were a bit forced and didn't transit naturally from scene to scene. So it felt quite artificial.

A good movie but I wouldn't place it in the category for one of the best of the year.
