Paranoia (7/10)

I don't know if this movie was really good or because I just came out of Grown Ups 2 and that made Paranoia seemed better than it actually was.

But bottom line is that I liked it very much.

There wasn't anything special about the story. In fact, the style of it was more like a 90s story at its best. But what enthralled me was the pacing and the acting.

Liam Hemsworth has caught my attention. I feel that he could carry a movie, even stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the greats like Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford. Even as the younger sibling to the God of Thunder, he is slowly making his mark in the industry with the choices he's made for his career.

I thought he was written off too quickly in The Expendables 2, just when I was starting to get into his character. And now this, so he can do action and he can do corporate espionage. And next he will continue on The Hunger Games saga. So, unlike his brother Chris who now has to shed off the iconic role when acting in other movies, Liam can do anything he chooses to next.

Oldman and Ford both were great. Although nothing awesome or anything special, even their rare exchanges in the movie left me wanting a little bit more; however they were great to watch.

And I thought this was a good role for Amber Heard. It's something that she's good at, being sexy and all that; and when directed well, she delivers. I'm just waiting for a break-out role from her and hope that it happens for her. She is one of the rare ones that I can't get enough of onscreen. The potential is there, somebody just have to bring it out.

The story was basic, wasn't sure how much have changed from the book as the subject was very up-to-date: talking about the evolution of mobile phones. There were a few bits that was not very properly done by Robert Luketic. There was a scene where I thought Hemsworth's character was going to come clean to Heard, or that there was a twist to be introduced. But when nothing happened, I didn't like how that was handled.

There were a couple of other loopholes, but otherwise it's entertaining enough with a capable cast and leads.
