I've always wondered if I'll ever see Chris Hemsworth as another character other than Thor. I've always wondered if he will ever be able to convince me through his acting capability that he's not Thor anymore. And I'm happy to say that he managed somewhat through Rush.
I loved how Ron Howard set up the story, the characters and their rivalry. Howard brought some great cinematic shots to the movie and has some nice pacing and also great developments.
Now since I'm no F1 fan, I have no idea what F1 fans thought of how Howard told the F1 bits; but for me, I wasn't impressed. There were a lot of editing and for most of the time, I could only tell what was going on as an overall feel. But down to the detailing? I didn't know what was going on. So I wondered, while Howard didn't use any CGI and stayed true to the natural form of storytelling, could he have had done better here?
Even though the main poster featured Hemsworth's face, the main star of the movie felt more like it was Daniel Bruhl. He had more to do and had more layers to his character than Hemsworth's.
That also reflected in the love interests. Olivia Wilde had less screentime or development compared to Alexandra Maria Lara's character.
But as a movie, this was a great piece that featured on the great rivalry between two F1 drivers. Howard made a told a great story that was very entertaining. After and since Frost/Nixon, this would be the more memorable film from Howard.
