Lone Survivor (8/10)

Peter Berg's distinct style is unmistakable. Watching the the first act of Lone Survivor was like watching an episode of Friday Night Lights. Someone in the movie even said, "Full hearts".

Berg brought back one of his favourite actors from the TV series too, Taylor Kitsch who has never looked bigger in size, played a fantastic role here and in my opinion his best performance to date. (I was never really a fan of his brooding character in the series, though that was because of his acting chops too.)

But not just Kitsch and Mark Wahlberg, even Emile Hirsch and Ben Foster were commendable. Especially the latter who for once did not have the crazy eyes on and felt more grounded.

With Berg's direction, the middle portion with all the gun fights were super intense. And for what felt like a never ending battle, Berg kept up that high intensity for an unbelievably long period of time.

And because of that intensity and thrilling grip all taking place in the middle of the movie, the last act fell a bit short - like two notches below the middle.

But he closed the movie off with some very touching pictures. If he keeps up his directing style, he will be one director that I will look out for.
