Saving Mr. Banks (9/10)

I have not felt this Disney magic for a very long time. Sure, Frozen came close, but not Saving Mr. Banks close.

Emma Thompson, after witnessing her performance here, I felt she got snubbed for a nomination this year. I thought she was amazing playing the "evil witch" here, with all the little nuances in her facial expressions. She should have been nominated; and from the current list, as I haven't seen Philomena, I would take Sandra Bullock off the list (not that I don't think she doesn't deserve it, of course).

And the first moment Colin Farrell came on, I had a feeling he was going to be something special. And he didn't disappoint.

I loved how the John Lee Hancock alternated between the present and the past. Both intertwined beautifully and didn't miss a beat. The interchanging scenes complimented each other just right.

Both stories had so much heart, and so moving. We got to have a sense of who the creator of Mary Poppins was and how her father made her who she was. And all the humour he brought with having vibrancy and colours to clash with resistance and grey was a glee to watch.

Tom Hanks as Walt Disney, awesome. So were Brad Whitford, Jason Schwartzman and B. J. Novak as the writers.

And what brilliance to see Micky Mouse woo Mary Poppins. It was that pure Disney magic again. I came out of the cinema with a big smile on my face. I understood the movie Mary Poppins more. And ultimately, glad that I could feel once again that Disney magic I haven't felt so long.
