This must be one of the best coming of age movies. What a beautiful story that pulled at the heartstrings.
The characters were created properly to tell this story that was poignant and realistic. It made me wish I have friends like them and the sad truth was I recognise how my ego wouldn't have let me back in highschool.
This was Ezra Miller's best performance I have ever seen. It's strange how he hasn't gotten more roles as of now. And this was a great way for Emma Watson to get out of the Harry Potter franchise.
Logan Lerman for the most part, looked the part. However, there were just a couple of times when he suddenly looked out of character and looked real mature. That took me out of the movie for a while.
And it looked like Stephen Chbosky really knew what he was doing when he decided to direct the movie which he wrote the book and the screenplay. Considering he doesn't direct at all, this was quite an impressive piece of work.
And the way he told the last parts of this movie, that wasn't easy. It wasn't easy to show just enough, and not more, and for the audience to feel exactly the way he wanted; to learn just enough to be able to make sense of things. That was a very carefully edited sequence. It was so important because it summed up the whole movie. And it was a success.
The only thing that was slightly underwhelmed was how the characters talked about having great taste in music but I would have liked to hear more songs thrown in there, to make it more memorable.
But I still loved that feeling the movie conjured after the credits started rolling. That's exactly how a movie like this should make you feel.
