Tom Hiddleston To Play Country Legend Hank Williams
Tom "Loki" Hiddleston has been confirmed to play the legendary country artist who achieved fame at the tender age of 14, who wrote the hits "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" and "Your Cheatin' Heart", and died at the young age of 29. The biopic will be titled I Saw The Light.
Obviously this is going to be a heavy drama much like most of the other biopics of singers (Walk The Line, Ray). But Hiddleston is also confirmed to be singing the songs himself so this would add a lot of value into making the performance as real as possible. Done well, it could be magic, just like Walk The Line and the recent Inside Llewyn Davis.
Also, this would be yet another reinforcing exclamation mark on how Hollywood has been taken over by foreign actors who are taking on very American roles. Easiest to reference, just take a look at the superheroes genre. We already have two Brits playing icons like Superman and Batman. And an Aussie playing Thor.
I wouldn't be surprised if the country music fans have some harsh words for the Hiddleston decision soon.
But I ultimately am interested to see Hiddleston in such a role as I haven't seen any of his other works just yet, though I'm very eager to see Only Lovers Left Alive. I think he is a brilliant actor with amazing charisma and would cheer for him to pull this off.
