I just saw the first trailer of The Book Of Life at our local cinema while watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. And now with the second one just released, I have to say I still don't quite get the movie.
The title of this animation is called The Book Of Life, but that concept wasn't very clear enough. The movie looked gorgeous with all the vibrant colours but nothing from this trailer coloured the characters enough for me to care.
The storyline looks a bit dark as well, for a moment I thought it was Tim Burton's. But no, it was just at first glace. This is directed by Jorge R. Gutierrez, but the familiarity of it all stemmed from the mind of the producer, Guillermo del Toro.
Another good thing about it is that the voices are not apparent so as not to distract the audience, I never realised Zoe Saldana and Channing Tatum are in it. But the lead character's voice is by a somewhat unknown actor by the name of Diego Luna, who has had small roles in Elysium, Contraband and Milk.
Also lending their voices are Ron Perlman - long-time collaborator of del Toro, Christina Applegate, Danny Trejo, Ice Cube and comedian Gabriel Iglesias.
I am hoping the ending I have in my mind is not the same as the movie's, otherwise it may not be a great movie. The Book Of Life comes out 24 October 2014 - perfect for Halloween.
