One of Indonesian's best movie export has been The Raid: Redemption and its sequel, The Raid 2: Berandal. Written and directed by Gareth Evans, the sequel was just out this year and now there are plans to remake this franchise in Hollywood, even when The Raid 3 was just announced!
Obviously the potential to make a lot of money is there, if done well. But I think this is way too fast, even for Hollywood's standards.
But a director is already attached, Patrick Hughes, who is just coming off The Expendables 3. Clearly an action director, but can he recreate all those crazy fight scenes from the original. It doesn't seem that they would be bringing in the main lead from Indonesia, Iko Uwais.
Instead, Taylor Kitsch has been offered the lead role. We've seen he can do action in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. But to do what Uwais has done, that's a tall order!
We'll probably hear more news on this front in the coming months.
