Deadpool Movie Finally Moving Forward With Release Date
It's always nice to wake up to a piece of movie news that's so exciting that it immediately makes your day.
Back in July, there was a "secret" test sequence for Marvel and X-Men's Deadpool, a character that was first introduced and then butchered horribly in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, played by Ryan Reynolds.
It was already rumoured then that Reynolds will get a spin-off of sorts with the Deadpool character but, with the backlash of that movie, the project seemed to have died.
Fans have been rallying ever since to still move forward with Deadpool as this was a much-beloved character in the comic book world with a great stories and an even stronger following.
Somehow that test sequence got "leaked" online and, even though was quickly pulled down by 20th Century Fox, enough fans saw it and enough positive energy was generated from it that Fox has now confirmed to move ahead with it and even announced a release date, which will be 12 February 2016.
I would have expected this to be in the summer blockbuster season but seeing as most big movies out during that period are family- and teen-friendly, there is still hope that this "Merc-with-a-mouth" will get that R certification it deserves. Let's face it, Deadpool is just not kids friendly. And to release this in the month of February, like The Lego Movie, could be a runaway surprise hit.
If done well, I wouldn't see why not. And it's quite safe to speculate at this point that Reynolds will be reprising his role since he's part of the success of the so-called "leaked" sequence.
