So, releasing today, we have two new English language movies. And being the month of Halloween, another horror movie has dropped. But wait a minute...
1) The Haunting Of Helena
Released in 2012, this foreign indie doesn't even look like it's worthy of a B-rated horror. From the acting to the directing that even the cutting of the trailer couldn't mask, it's more like an amateur movie that's half-baked.
Granted there are some nice shots in there in terms of cinematography, but I'm not going into this after watching the trailer. If I did, I'll probably be laughing at all the wrong parts.
2) Left Behind
So that leaves Nicolas Cage to come and save the week. Cage was just in the cinema for another film two weeks ago with Outcast, and now he's back with this. It seems like he's just collecting paychecks one after the other.
And let's not kid ourselves, while I somewhat found a sliver of enjoyment in Outcast, that didn't mean Cage put on a fantastic show. But at least he looked like he cared and not just phoned it in.
For what it's worth, Cage is dependable. And I believe he'll give this performance in Left Behind some credence too to make it work, or worth our while.
I first saw this trailer when watching The Equalizer just a couple of days ago, and I thought it looked very interesting. So I'm hoping it will be at least good.
