The Equalizer (7.5/10)

Finally caught up with all that I've missed ever since I went on my trip to Taipei. Equalizer was the last of them. And it did not disappoint.

It's a classic Denzel Washington vehicle portraying him as a badass with a past and a gun. Actually, he can use anything to kill.

Even though the trailer heavily promoted Chloe Grace Moretz, her role was still a minor one. That doesn't mean she didn't make an impact though. Moretz never failed to deliver when she has a minor role - sometimes she's even better in these roles than her bigger ones.

Other cast members all appear for quite short period as well. Bill Pullman and Melissa Leo, both notable actors in their own right, strangely signed up for such small roles. But I liked David Meunier's addition here as the initial target to take down. And Marton Csokas played the part of the ruthless antagonist quite well.

Still, this is Washington's movie through and through. And he's still so good at what he does. We've seen him in recent past as a nasty badass. And this time, he's the badass with a heart of gold. But in that one scene when he confronted the antagonist, that's the scene to watch! That's the scene when he'll make bad guys shit their pants. And that's all Washington.

I wanted more badass in the final scene. It was slightly too tame after all we've seen. So that was a very minor disappointment. But overall, for a 2-hour running time, it was enjoyable.

  1. You'll be surprised how bored my gf was watching this movie - while I was enjoying the slow introduction - she was yawning and even the badass killing didn't interest her. She gave it a 3 out of 10 but I give it a 7

    1. Yea I can see how it's not for everyone. There's a certain style to it that some people just won't accept.
