The Huntsman Loses Frank Darabont

The only thing The Huntsman had going for it was attaching Frank Darabont to direct it. Darabont, known for The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption, was seen as the key person to give this franchise a potential shot at becoming something good, has dropped out of the project.

Taking his place, however, is Cedric Nicholas-Troyan who previously was the visual effects supervisor for Snow White And The Huntsman. And here's the worry. How many times have we seen a special effects director take on the director's role and then botch up the whole thing? Remember Eragon? No? That's why.

Nicholas-Troyan is no Darabont, and Darabont's name is huge. But to argue for Nicholas-Troyan, he's already been tasked to develop Bethlehem for Universal Pictures as well as the reboot for Highlander.

Maybe he's the right guy, maybe not. But then again, how many people really care about The Huntsman anyway?

On a casting note though, and maybe this is why people will start caring for the movie, is that Emily Blunt has signed on to star opposite Chris Hemsworth. With Blunt's rising star power, it will only help build up the cast, which is much needed at this point.
