The Wedding Ringer (8.5/10)
This was quite the pleasant surprise because, while I thought it would be good, I didn't think it would be that good.
The laughs came from the very beginning and lasted non-stop to the very end, sprinkled with some heartfelt moments in the middle.
Kevin Hart is fantastic at what he does, and this was him leading a movie at his best. His bromance and chemistry with co-star Josh Gad was evident and they played off each other so well, especially on the dance floor; which kind of crept up on the audience out of nowhere but I didn't care. I ate it all up.
Even though plot-point by plot-point was predictable as any rom-com can get, and in this case it's a brom-com, but because of Jeremy Garelick's pacing and those hard hitting jokes; the whole experience was very enjoyable.
You would think things would slow down a little in the middle (like so many other movies of the same genre), especially during Hart's sentimental moments; but the beat of the story was still there and the pacing never suffered. Garelick really nailed his first full-length feature on the head.
Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting was serviceable. Olivia Thirlby could have had more to do as this movie never did her skills justice. And Nicky Whelan should be getting bigger and better roles than this. But Ignacio Serricchio stole every scene as Edmundo. And those two versus he started was so catchy that I couldn't get it out of my mind.
Overall, great chemistry from Gad and Hart which sparked up the screen every time they were on and that ultimately made the movie so fun to watch.
