Sony To Develop A Live-Action Robotech Movie

A very popular anime back in the 80's, Robotech originated from Japan is very recognisable worldwide; or at least to my age group (but not me since I never saw it because back then, I wasn't into anime at all and there was a more popular transforming robot cartoon).

Warner Bros. used to own the rights to Robotech and has even had Leonardo DiCaprio set to star in it at one point. But nothing ever came of it and now that the rights are no longer attached to WB, Sony quickly snatched it up.

According to Variety, they have already a plan in motion to develop a live-action feature film and "hopes to quickly move into production". Michael Gordon of 300 and G. I. Joe fame will write the script that will have a vibe that combines Independence Day and Star Wars.

Here's Sony's chance to sell a new line of toys, action figures and comic books!
