The writing for this movie was so good that every sentence that came out of Murray's character, Vincent, was gold. He made me laugh from beginning to the end. The quirks and the characterisation of Vincent was just hilarious. I was watching this movie on the plane from Taipei to Bangkok, and I had trouble holding back laughter.
Not only could Theodore Melfi write, but he could direct his cast as well. Having Naomi Watts play a pregnant prostitute with an accent was brilliant. And to have Melissa McCarthy play a softer character that no one expected was another brilliant move.
Young Jaeden Lieberher was such a good actor for Murray to play off of. He was most impressive. Chris O'Dowd was another very humorous character. Only Terrence Howard didn't have too much to do but he made up a strong ensemble.
The way Melfi told this story, and the way the story progressed, the ending became this beautiful and touching moment that I almost balled my eyes out.
Had the movie had a more consistent pacing throughout the middle, I would have had enjoyed it more rather than wondering if the movie was going to end soon.
But other than that minor complaint, this was such a great movie that I wished I had had the opportunity to watch it on the big screen.
