I have no idea why this is happening at all but Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the geniuses behind The Lego Movie and also 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street, are bringing Spider-Man back to the silver screen - but in animation form.
This of course has nothing to do with the live-action treatment that is overseen by Marvel's Kevin Feige for the first crossover ever between Sony and Marvel. The animated movie will be completely independent.
But why this and why now? This could only cause confusion as to who Spider-Man is, especially with the first reboot (portrayed by Andrew Garfield) and now going into the second one. So even before the second reboot comes out, they are annoucing another version of Spider-Man (a third reboot perhaps)?
No details are given yet except for the release date of this animated movie, which will be on 20 July 2018; keeping in mind that the next live-action Spider-Man will be released on 28 July 2017.
