The Best Of Me (4/10)
I did say I would watch anything by James Marsden - the most underrated actor working today, so that led me to this movie.
Directed by Michael Hoffman whose One Fine Day I really enjoyed, but that was back in 1996; and this was another Nicholas Sparks' tear-jerking novel.
While the cast of Marsden and Michelle Monaghan, with a somewhat stoic Luke Bracey and Liana Liberato playing their younger selves, all gave competent performances; the story was typical and predictable.
At times, how certain plot points progressed was frustrating but thankfully there were few and far in between.
Gerald McRaney added some gravitas and wisdom. But why do these movies always have a lake for the two love birds to jump into?
There really wasn't much that interested me and I'm probably not its target audience. So I was glad when it was over as it had quite a long running time, just shy of two hours.
