New Spider-Man Actor And Director Confirmed!
It is official. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have confirmed that they have their next Spider-Man. The announcement can be found on Marvel's official website.
The new face of Marvel's most iconic superhero is going to be Tom Holland. While his name is still unfamiliar, Holland started his Hollywood career starring opposite Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts in 2012's tsunami thriller, The Impossible.
He can next be seen playing opposite his soon-to-be Avengers teammate, Chris Hemsworth in Ron Howard's In The Heart Of The Sea, which will be released on 11 December 2015.
But even more surprising, to me at least, is the director attached to helm this next standalone movie.
I first come across of Tom Watts was when his upcoming movie, Cop Car, released its first trailer. Starring Kevin Bacon, just by the trailer itself, I am eager to see what the movie is about because it looked intense, interesting, and the kind of thriller that could end with a good twist.
Cop Car has already been released earlier this year in the Sundance Film Festival, currently with a 77% score on RottenTomatoes; and will officially be released on 7 August 2015.
Having being handpicked by the people at Marvel (by now I am convinced that Marvel Studios is calling the shots while Sony Pictures is learning the ropes), Cop Car must have made a very good impression so it bodes well for Watts.
The next Spider-Man reboot will not be an origin story, thankfully so. It will see a Peter Parker already bitten by a spider (radiated or not) and he's already swinging around the city saving people as the masked vigilante.
Another thing to note is that this will be the youngest Spider-Man / Peter Parker we have ever had onscreen. Marvel is really investing on the highschool years of Peter this time around, so shall we expect more teenage angst?
The movie is set for a 28 July 2017 opening date.
