This is such a no-brainer for Universal Pictures. In the first opening weekend alone, Pitch Perfect 2 has out-sold the original Pitch Perfect in its entire run!
Now, The Hollywood Reporter has reported that another sequel is underway with Kay Cannon negotiating to write for the franchise once again. I like Cannon's free-rein writing in the sequel as there was no source material to base the movie off of, unlike the original. And Cannon really made the dialogues more interesting and funny.
No word yet whether or not Elizabeth Banks will direct again. Also, Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson's contracts are up, so they may not return for a third movie. I would be okay if Kendrick decides not to return because she was already half way out the door in the second movie.
But I would look forward to watching Hailee Steinfeld lead the Bellas in a third movie. Whether or not Wilson, Brittany Snow and the rest of the original cast will return, I'm not that bothered.
