Han Solo Coming As A Star Wars Anthology Movie
The geek world is on fire today as Lucasfilm announced on the Star Wars official site that a new Star Wars Anthology movie is coming our way, and it will focus on none other than one of the most beloved characters of movie history, Han Solo.
The news doesn't stop there. Lucasfilm has already found the directors for this new Anthology movie. Christopher Miller and Phil Lord from The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street franchise fame, will be directing!
At first glance, I wasn't sure about Lord and Miller as directors for what is to be an action-filled Star Wars movie. But as I thought about who Han Solo is and the kind of skepticism and sense of humour he has, I think Lord and Miller can work their magic on a character like this while infusing a lot of action sequences into it.
The two previous movies mentioned above had action too, granted they weren't Star Wars kind of action but still. After what comedy-directors The Russo Brothers had done with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the great things I've heard from people who have watched Peyton Reed's (another comedy director) Ant-Man, we can no longer pigeon-hole these guys as only comedy directors.
Like what Marvel's producer Kevin Feige says, a good storyteller is a good storyteller.
Also, not forgetting that Lord and Miller have inserted a few tiny Star Wars segments into The Lego Movie which worked brilliantly.
"This is the first film that we've worked on that seems like a good idea to begin with," said Lord and Miller in reference to the above movies mentioned, "This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you're late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dreams where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you've loved since before you can remember having dreams at all."
This new Anthology movie will tell a tale of a younger Han Solo, when he was still a smuggler, thief and scoundrel, like when Obi Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker first met him inside the cantina on Mos Eisley. The screenplay is being written by father-and-son duo, Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan.
The movie, without a title yet, will take over the release date of the second Anthology film which was previously announced and previously attached to Josh Trank; and is supposedly to focus on Bobba Fett, which was set to release on 25 May 2018.
