Paddington - Review (8/10)

With the news of Paddington 2 in the works, I just realised that I haven't done my review for the first movie.

I remembered not being enthusiastic at all to go for the movie as I thought it was made more for kids than adults. But I did continue to hear good things about it and decided that I had to bite the bullet.

And I was pleasantly surprised at how entertaining it was. The origin story at the beginning was beautiful and moving. The CGI of the bears were beautiful with great texture. And the story development, with how a talking bear got invited to stay with a British family, wasn't weird at all.

The decision to remove Colin Firth as the voice of Paddington was a great move. Ben Wishaw's more youthful voice seems like the better decision and it's very brave of the producers and director Paul King to replace Firth even after most of the recording was completed.

Nicole Kidman played a good antagonist, but I thought she was a bit too two-dimensional for me. Nevertheless, even playing a bad guy, her beauty is still flawless.

Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins were both great, but Bonneville as the pessimistic and untrusting father stole part of the movie.

The humour in the writing was the best part. There's always a light moment at every turn and it kept the entertainment value high.

So it's no wonder Paddington is getting a sequel, it is well deserved.
