Star Wars: The Force Awakens Sets New Record For Monday Sales

J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens has set yet another record... because after breaking all those weekend and worldwide records, it just made sense to keep it up.

The movie once again crushes a previous record, which is the biggest Monday gross previously held by Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 that had USD 27.7 million.

The new US record now sits at USD 40.1 million, before adding another USD 41.7 million from the international markets. It is also now the fastest movie in the US to cross the USD 250 million mark, and has recorded more than USD 610 million worldwide.

It is also experiencing only a 33.76% Monday drop off, a number very similar to Avatar's (according to BoxOfficeMojo) - which The Force Awakens is now attempting to catch in overall sales and as the record holder. Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2 was the other record holder at 49.4% drop.

This is going to be a very interesting race to the Avatar numbers, and very interesting to see what the China market will say of the movie in a few weeks.
