Jamie Foxx Is Little John In New Robin Hood

Lionsgate is developing a new Robin Hood movie titled, Robin Hood: Origins. As the subtitle suggests, this will be a fresh take on the origin of the mythological character; and has been described as in the same vein as Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy.

Playing Robin will be last year's breakout star from Kingsman: The Secret Service, Taron Egerton. Eve Hewson from TV series "The Knick" and last year's Bridge Of Spies will play Maid Marian.

And according to Deadline yesterday, Jamie Foxx has been signed on to play Little John. His character will differ a little from the classical Little John and is described as "a battle hardened but war weary veteran of The Crusades who starts out distrustful of Robin Hood (they fought on opposite sides), and then warms to the young hero".

The movie will be directed by Otto Bathurst as his first full length feature, his previous work has been in the realm of TV series.

No word yet of a release date.
