Pacific Rim 2 Moving Forward With New Director
The creator and director of Pacific Rim, Guillermo del Toro, has last weekend announced on his Twitter account a new director who will move forward with his pet project sequel.
Steven S. DeKnight, creator of TV's "Spartacus" and producer of the current "Daredevil" series, will make his directorial debut with Pacific Rim 2.
One of the main reasons why del Toro couldn't get the project off the ground with Legendary Pictures was because he demanded an exorbitant amount of budget (around USD 200 million) for a first movie that just made above its total cost.
So DeKnight will most definitely bring the production cost down, perhaps by 50%. But it will be interesting to see how he directs the movie as his previous (five) experiences have all been episodes for TV. But with what he has been able to accomplish with "Daredevil" recently, he is on quite a trajectory.
No word yet on a release date for the sequel.
