After a slew of casting announcements and one particularly interesting swap involving two of the biggest kungfu superstars of China, production for xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage seemed to have firmed up and now also getting an official release date.
Paramount Pictures have announced last weekend that the third installment with Vin Diesel back to lead will be released on 20 January 2017. Which also begs the question, does Paramount have no confidence whatsoever in the movie to release it in the dead zone of January, or does Paramount see the potential of domination?
I' guessing it's both. Maybe the script does not carry enough substance but the anticipation of fans for the sequel is there, backed by Diesel's online presence and marketing. And if no other movies open up that week or the next, then xXx may be a big hit financially when it opens.
Filming is currently underway with D.J. Caruso at the helm.
