Review: Demolition (4.5/10)

Maybe this movie wasn't for me, or maybe it was just a bad movie. We always see Jake Gyllenhaal take on a lead character role that's not, shall we say, "all there"; but seldom do we see Jake Gyllenhaal in a crappy movie.

Demolition was quite crappy. The biggest problem I have with it was, there wasn't anything to be gained from the movie. We're just following one man's grief, or escape - depending on your point of view; which really amounted to nothing in the end. There was no life lesson, there was no realization; it was just like sitting through one person's brief period of mid-life crisis and watching him demolish stuff.

No doubt the talent involved was in no question sub-par. From Gyllenhaal to Naomi Watts to Chris Cooper; the movie would have suffered a lot worse had it not for these great performers. Unfortunately, the entertainment value was missing and the pacing sometimes slowed to a crawl.

Definitely disappointing considering Gyllenhaal is one of the best today.
