Morgan Freeman To Join Disney's The Nutcracker And The Four Realms


Walt Disney Pictures in currently developing a live-action adaptation of The Nutcracker, which is currently titled The Nutcracker And The Four Realms.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is looking to add Morgan Freeman as the mysterious Drosselmeyer; while Interstellar's Mackenzie Foy will play the lead Clara, and supported by American Ballet Theatre's acclaimed dancer Misty Copeland who will take the lead dancer role.

The source material comes from the short story "The Nutcracker And The Mouse King" by E.T.A. Hoffman published in 1816, and more famously adapted as a ballet production by Tchaikovsky in the late 19th century.

The movie will be directed by Lasse Holstrom, who also directed What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Cider House Rules and the more recent The Hundred-Foot Journey.

No release date has been set at this time.
