[Review] Inferno (7.5/10)

I didn't have high hopes going into this, considering I didn't enjoy The Da Vinci Code nor Angels & Demons too much.

I was also surprised that both Ron Howard and Tom Hanks would come back once again to this franchise and this character.

But I have to say, right from the start I was hooked. The way it started with flashes of imagery from the work of "Dante's Inferno", there's quite a bit of CGI effort put into this even if it's just for hallucinations.

Would I still pick Hanks for Professor Langdon? No. But Hanks is Hanks and he was very compelling.

This time he has Felicity Jones to work with and I thought the pair had onscreen chemistry and presence together. Even though some story points jumped miles ahead when it came to Jones' character believing in Hanks', but considering how it ended, that could be overlooked somewhat.

The only downside I have was Hanks and Sidse Babett Knudsen's relationship. Every time they are together onscreen, I lost interest immediately.

Thankfully there were also Omar Sy and Irrfan Khan that helped to keep things interesting. The story itself was an already an interesting one following the book, but as an adaptation this was the best. The pacing helped a lot because the first two I remembered were kind of slow.

Also, some of the key places visited helped because I have good memories about them, having personally been there and longing to go back again.

Overall, a redeemable effort from both Hanks and Howard; but would I want a fourth one? Not necessarily but I wouldn't reject the idea.
