[Review] The Artist (8/10)
They don't make movies like this anymore, that's for sure. And for good reasons I suppose. But The Artist was done so impeccably that I would not mind watching more silent movies.
This was probably a perfect marriage between the old silent movies and the current sensibilities in storytelling.
The two leads in Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo were splendid, with great supporting from John Goodman, James Cromwell and Penelope Ann Miller. I thought Michel Hazanavicius really captured that moviemaking age of Hollywood, and directed his cast very appropriately; and yet kept it fresh and captivating.
There was, however, one part in the middle where I did not know where the story was going and that part lost my interest for a little bit. But then the way it ended brought everything back and made the previous scenes all made sense.
There was also a fantastic dance number to look forward to at the end that, once again, paid beautiful tribute to that period of Hollywood yet again.
